Lower East Side - Manhattan
The Lower East Side is bordered by East Houston Street on the north, Canal Street to the south, Second Avenue to the west and the East River. This area was the most densely populated section of the city in the mid-1800s. At one point, over 240,000 immigrants lived within one square mile. Today, the Lower East Side is perhaps one of the only remaining parts of the city where one can find "reasonably" priced real estate.
