Upper West Side
Back to NYC MapJust a bit north of Lincoln Center’s cultural charms, this part of the Upper West Side calls forth images from the films of Woody Allen and Nora Ephron as well as the TV show Seinfeld. This upscale neighborhood is largely residential and highly desirable for families – with its great schools and park access. Just inside Central Park off the 80th Street entrance is the Delacorte Theatre, best known for its summertime productions of Shakespeare in the Park.
On the south end of this area is the American Museum of Natural History, one of the city’s most beloved institutions. With several enormous exhibition halls and a stunning array of artifacts, it’s easy to while away an entire day inside. When you’ve finished staring at the wonders of our world, you can wonder at the rest of the universe at the Rose Center for Earth and Space which houses the Hayden Planetarium; the most technologically advanced Space Theater in existence.
Many of the residences here are either mid-rise doorman buildings or townhouses. West End Ave provides a great example of the neighborhoods architectural charms; lined with pre-war Beaux-Arts apartment buildings and townhouses dating from the late-19th and early 20th centuries.
